In what was unanimously agreed to be the best organised, biggest and most successful Asian Australian Football Championships ever held, the Dubai Heat and Singapore Wombats played off in a repeat of the 2008 Final with the Heat again proving too strong.

Befitting the the 10th year of the Warriors history the bar was raised once again with the Championships confirming its position as a major event on the International Australian Football Sporting Calendar.

Congratulations to Peter Habel and his team for organising such a memorable event.

Scott McDonough is to be congratulated on making the Asian Lions side, for the fifth time - surely some sort of record!
Dion Cope became a two-time All-Asian and Brent Cowell was also honoured with selection in the 20.

Here you will find the latest happenings at the Warriors. Details of training (get off your backsides and get there!!), Match reports, details of Upcoming Events, Messages from The Coaching Staff. Everything you wanted to know and couldn't be bothered asking.

Auskick program to start Saturday March 14th and run through to end September. Updated calendar from July 1st uploaded.

Its a great chance for boys and girls of any age, but especially 12 and below, to keep involved with footy.

Sessions will run Saturday Mornings, however when the Malaysian Warriors have a game we will run the session at the match in the afternoon. These sessions have been a highlight for the kids to see 'real footy' live.

The Auskick programme had a great result when at the Gaelic Games on May 16th, the Warriors Auskick kids won the trophy as the best team

All international match reports can be found here. Apart from the Asian Championships the Malaysian Warriors typically play 8 matches per year. Our traditional opponents are Singapore Wombats (We play 3 games per year for the Changi Cup), Thailand Tigers (Malay-Thai Cup), Hong Kong Dragons, Jakarta Bintangs, and Hanoi Swans. Apart from Singapore and Asian Championships we normally have two other overseas games per year. In recent years our home ground at Alice Smith School has become a fortress - we have been unbeaten for two years, though our away record is nowhere near as good. Check here for match reports.

Intra-Club

Intra Club Match 3 27th June, 2009 :- Warriors 16.8.104 d. Blues 15.5.95
Warriors reversed the previous two encounters with a narrow win. Match report uploaded
Can level up 2-all if they win on 8th August.
This year marks a change where prior to the season two distinct teams were chosen, warriors and Blues. These two teams will play off against each other in the intra club competition.
Hopefully, this is the fore runner of what will become a vibrant domestic competition.
The domestic competition allows players who have difficulty travelling or are learning the game to have a decent hit-out in a competitive environment. It also allows the coaches to assess players and try out strategies. And of course it helps fitness, as well as providing a break from weekly training.

U18s_August_8_2.jpg

On 7th August, 1858 Melbourne Grammar played Scotch College in Richmond Park in what is generally regarded as the first official Australian football match ever played.
On 8th August, 2009, 151 years later, almost to the day, history was created when the Malaysian Warriors Under 18 team took on the Australian International School Malaysia and scored a meritorious victory.
From such little acorns, mighty oaks grow.

Australian High Commission Reception for Carlton Football Club

high_commission_17_june_1.jpg

The Old Dark Navy Blues have a major sposorship agreement with Tourism Malaysia and a few dignitaries were at a reception at the Australian High Commission in KL. Naturally, the Warriors cogniscenti was well represented.
Also invited were three members of the emerging Warriors U17 team, Mohan, Wy Kean and Fadhil, accompanied by Andy Lee (representing Shane and Mike, his fellow U17 coaches).

The Guests of Honour were the sponsors of Carlton Football Club and a number of the Club's heirarchy.

Stars of the show were Warriors heavyweights (in presence, not girthwise) Paul McCalman and Scott McDonough decked out in the 2009 Carlton strip featuring the logos of Hyundai and Tourism Malaysia, this year's major Sponsors of the Blues.

The U17 boys attracted a lot of attention from the press and members of the gathering: they really enjoyed being seen as part of The Warriors and the leading edge in the development of wider interest and participation in Australian Rules Football in Malaysia.

The High Commissioner, Penny Williams, was a gracious hostess, as ever. Her speech was music to the ears of football lovers and to those of us who are keen to see our code catch on and thrive here. (Her Excellency has also very happily agreed to host the Draw for the Championships at her residence on August 27).

Warriors Sponsors and Jumper Presentation Night 2009

Presentation_Night_16_May_1.jpg

On May 17th the Malaysian Warriors held their annual sponsors and jumper presentation night. As per usual a great night was had by all. The Warriors would like to express their gratitude to all our sponsors.

Platinum Sponsors Adams Racing Team, Lighthouse Financial Solutions and Mastercraft Building were not represented on the night, but their contribution to the Club is not unnoticed nor unappreciated.

Our fourth Platinum Sponsor, Auzcorp was represented by Chairman Haniff Kassim, Kylie Smith (Haniff's PA) and Marketing Executive Michelle Hurba up from Australia. Accompanying the Auzcorp group were Allen and Debbie Cooper from Newman, WA...Allen is CEO of East Pilbara Shire, the biggest in Australia. Auzcorp also sponsor the Newman AFL team....and are major sponsors of the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers!!!

Loscam was represented by Mr Chin Wee Hoong, Senior Sales Executive.

Our hostess at Finnegans, Melissa Chong (Marketing Executive) again represented the Warriors favoured drinking spot!

It was great to see Scott Venes and he took the stand for Quantum Sails.

Ashley Luff, recently appointed MD replacing Steve Lewis, and Reuben (Operations Manager) represented Santa Fe on the night. Ashley would be well known to Bintangs supporters in Jakarta as was based there for a few years in the '90s

Bluescope Steel who have supported our Auskick programme was represented by Valerine Lee (Senior Market Communication Executive).

Last, but not least: In Good Company Australia. Past Coach and INGC MD Geoff Blethyn was happily in town for the event.

A great sidelight was Greg Catterall displaying the recently won Auskick Trophy and challenging the senior Warriors to bring back the Manila Cup.
A big year ahead, so Fire Up, Warriors!

The Night of Nights - Warriors Awards Night 2008

Awards_Night_2008_035_copy.jpg

The Warriors Awards Night is one of the highlights of the Kuala Lumpur social calendar. A night of glitz and glamour. When the ladies don their finery and men the black tie and dust off the tux. 28th November, 2008 was no exception. For the record Scott MCDonough swept the "Oscars": Best Player, Players Player, Leading Goalkicker, Life Membership 2nd Best: Glen Sargeant 3rd Best: Nick Vogels Best Clubman: Greg Catterall (did a fantastic job with Auskick) Most Improved: Ben Simpson Best Rookie: Michael Thomas. Life Membership: Paul harrap (also first child to he and Yoges: Priya Renae born 12.30am Sunday 30 November - congratulations from all warriors!)). Needless to say, a fantastic night: highlight was Tony Hills answer to the Iliad! A poetic rundown on all the Warriors...the product of 14 trips to and from China over the last few months! Thank you to our sponsors In Good Company Australia (CEO is former player/coach Geoff Blethyn) and support from PI Ltd via new player, James Paterson.
